A multilingual fantasy at Bologna Children’s Book Fair

Book Fair

Janette Lart’s latest book “Home, casa on display at the Bologna International Children’s Book Fair (8-11 April 2024, Hall 29).

The author who reached 93rd position on Amazon for the English-only ebook of Home, casa, has published a print version in two languages, Italian and English, and now awaits the publication of the Italian version on Audible.

Home, casa is a fantasy for very young children, in the Middle Grade age range of 11 to 13. Using her experience as an English language teacher, the author produced something that was also educational and instructive, so if you read in English, you learn Italian, if you are Italian, you learn English.

The story is also compelling with all the right ingredients for a narrative, full of values.

The main character is immediately established by his diversity. He is a talking fish, a vegan, born in an aquarium and alone without the origin family from which he was separated. And it doesn’t end there; his best friend is a male fish who will become a female, he meets a family of seahorses and discovers that the male is expecting babies, not the mate. Finally he falls in love with a sea star, promised to another.

This is not just a good story in the rediscovery of the family. It is a book that documents the flora and fauna of the Mediterranean Sea that bathes the coast of Sicily, the author’s homeland.

The Bologna Book Fair is the largest and most important fair for publishing, addressing not only children but also teenagers. It is an international meeting place for all professionals in the field. “Seeing my book on display means to me, ‘I am there too’, it means giving my work the visibility it deserves,” Janette Lart says.
