At WFI, we believe everyone should have the chance to pursue their dreams. We are thrilled to announce our transformative, hands-on programs designed to provide students with the skills, mentorship, and confidence to launch successful careers in filmmaking, while also earning academic credits from Laurentian University.
**Why Choose Weengushk Film Institute?**
Our programs are designed to foster narrative sovereignty, amplify underrepresented voices, and nurture cultural identity. Through immersive media arts education, professional mentorship, and land-based teachings, students from diverse and Indigenous backgrounds can develop essential film production skills, from cinematography to editing.
WFI’s **Certificate in Film Production** teaches foundational filmmaking techniques such as sound design, cinematography, and editing, while allowing students to create their first short film or creative project. With hands-on experience using professional equipment, you’ll gain practical skills that will serve as the cornerstone for your future in the media arts industry.
**A Unique Collaboration with Laurentian University**
At WFI, we recognize the hard work and dedication our students put into their education. To support your journey, we’ve partnered with **Laurentian University** to offer up to **30 university credits** upon completion. This means you can earn valuable academic credentials while gaining hands-on, industry-specific knowledge.
Not a fan of in person learning? **online programs** are designed to be flexible and accessible, ensuring that students—whether local or remote—can build practical skills in film, and media at their own pace. Whether you’re interested in producing, scriptwriting, or editing, these online courses provide a comprehensive look at the film production process, from concept to distribution.
**The Path to Television Production – Your Next Big Step**
For those who want to take their skills to the next level, WFI also offers the **Certificate in Television Production** launching in September 2025. In this advanced program, students will receive mentorship from seasoned industry professionals while learning specialized television techniques such as scriptwriting, directing, sound composition, and production planning. As part of the program, students will even get the chance to develop and direct a **six-episode television series**!
