In the bustling streets of Karachi, where the sounds of life intertwine with the beats of music, Giles Goveas found his calling at the tender age of 16. It was in the heart of his family, especially his dad, the Late Alan Goveas, that his love for drumming flourished. From the St. Dominic Savio Choir to small bands like Kashish and Qarar, Giles’ journey as a drummer began, each step supported by the unwavering encouragement of his loved ones. He is also very thankful to his parents for giving him his first Tama drumset ever as a gift, which helped him a lot in his musical journey.
Growing up, Giles found inspiration in the melodies of bands like Bon Jovi, Bryan Adams, Aerosmith, Police Act and the rhythmic complexity of artists like Dave Matthews Band. But it wasn’t just international influences that shaped his music; the streets of Pakistan, with their unique sounds and rhythms, left an indelible mark on his soul. Traveling across the country, Giles absorbed the diversity of Pakistani music, finding inspiration in the everyday sounds that surrounded him.
During his time with Aunty Disco Project (ADP), Giles truly found his place in the spotlight alongside acts like Kokaaf, Zoe Viccaji, and Alycia Dias. Collaborating with fellow musicians, he honed his skills and unleashed his creativity, captivating audiences with his dynamic drumming. The camaraderie within ADP fueled Giles’ passion even further, pushing him to explore new musical horizons, such as Coke Studio, and expand his artistic boundaries.
Life eventually led Giles to Canada, where he continued to pursue his musical aspirations. He embarked on a journey of composing and writing his own songs, collaborating with different artists to bring his musical vision to life. Currently, he thrives as the drummer for Goveas Project Jams and Royal Midnight Groove while also lending his drumming talents to various bands across Canada as a hired gun.
Now, after years of absence from the limelight, Giles Goveas is ready to make his return to the stage. With a heart full of hope and a drum kit in hand, he sets out to reconnect with his audience, to reignite the flames of his musical passion. It’s not just about performing; it’s about sharing a piece of himself with the world, about weaving melodies that resonate with the hearts of those who listen. Sharing his passion for work, Giles mentioned:
“I have started composing/writing my songs with videos like Invisible Beast, Cheers to Rock n Roll Till I Die, New Year’s Day, You Can Count on Me and many more to come.”
For Giles Goveas, music isn’t just a passion; it’s a way of life. And as he takes the first steps on this new chapter of his musical journey, he invites his fans to join him. Together, they’ll rediscover the rhythm that beats within their hearts, weaving a story of music, passion, and the enduring power of the human spirit.
